FULL DAY CLASS: Story Mining and Structure and Performance Workshop
Get the benefit of the morning class exploration of story mining and structure, then stay for the afternoon to get personalized coaching and a chance to get up on your feet! In the afternoon workshop, participants will focus solely on developing their own story. In groups and pairs, storytellers will get to experiment with structure, style and tone. Each student will have the opportunity to tell in front of their peers and get feedback that relates to their specific needs. Morning Class Only: Story Mining and Structure
Through the use of exercises involving theme, details and story structure, participants will learn how to create a compelling personal story. Learn methods to mine for stories from your past experiences, find out how to structure your story in a way that will keep your audience engaged & explore performance strategies to present your story in a way that is authentic and entertaining. About David Crabb
David Crabb is an author, instructor, storyteller & host of The Moth. In 2013, his solo show Bad Kid was named a New York Times Critics' Pick. Bad Kid the memoir was released in 2015 by Harper Perennial.
David runs his own storytelling school called "The Crabb Labb" and has directed & coached storytelling at NYC's Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB), People's Improv Theatre (The PIT), California State University, Occidental College, Indiana University, Kevin Allison's The Story Studio & NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He serves as a writing mentor for veterans across the country with The Writers Guild Initiative and has partnered with United We Dream to mentor immigrants in memoir.
David has designed and taught corporate storytelling at Twitter, Google, Facebook, Fidelity, Uber, Viacom & Bravo among others. In 2018, he begins a year-long artist residency at Occidental College teaching/directing storytelling & solo theatre.
David has been a member of NYC's Axis Company Theatre since 2003, developing original material in New York, Paris and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Since 2012 he has directed shows for the LA Fringe, NYC Fringe and The PIT’s Solocom. He’s performed the solo pieces Bad Kid, $1800, Story Roulette & Man In A Hole. His next memoir comes out in 2018.
