I have been heartily admonished for failing to write a Brit About Town blog for weeks. Granted for more than one of the weeks, I was enjoying the sunny delights of Anguilla and Puerto Rico, but clearly this is no excuse. Beat me, dear reader. I deserve it.
We have of course been doing all sorts of excellent things. We had sciencey fun with Neil DeGrasse Tyson in the absolutely jam-packed DAR Constitution Hall. He did a nice line in making people feel like they were science people. As for his actual talk, it was devoured by the audience with cult-like adoration which somehow missed me...
Next up, kid-style entertainment for grown-ups. We went to Catch Me, the brilliant parlor magic duel that we went to once before. Turns out the show is the same every time - boo! It was still good though, but we did know just a bit too much about what was going to happen... If you haven't seen them, they're back next weekend! Weirdly expensive, so get your tickets on Goldstar. We also went to Zip Zap Circus as part of the Atlas Performing Arts Center's Intersections festival. I didn't really enjoy the clowns, but the trapeze stuff was very cool indeed!
Perfect Liars Club March show was of course fabulous. As was the excellent Blithe Spirit at the National Theatre (except for the usher who sat in the audience and texted all through the second act!) - catch it while it's still there (finishes March 29th)! And we enjoyed the Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which was good but not as good as the original.
And that brings us up to this weekend!
Cool things to do in DC this weekend
Sat 21st March - There's a comedy brunch (ie brunch and comedy, not hilarious food items) at the Washington Firehouse at 2pm. Or it may be worth checking out the new Elaine de Kooning exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Later, spend a night in Paris and London at this intriguing Passport to Europe event.
Sunday 22nd March - It's the opening of DC's first Japanese Film Festival, CineMatsuri, on til Thursday. Amusingly Sixth and I's website is down as they seem not to have paid for their domain name renewal... but don't miss Kazu Ishiguro on Sunday at 5pm. Don't get to see him very often and he's talking about his first new book in over a decade. It's the event of the week!
Monday 23rd March - The Secret Monkey Social Club is back at the Dolcezza Factory behind Union Market. Not sure I'm cool enough for this cocktail jazz speakeasy set up...but it's waiting for you!
Brit About Town will be back properly next week!
